This album would've been canon for me if I'd heard it back in high school. Now it's too late for that, and it's just something good I found at one point. I listened to it a bunch of times in a row and then I was ready to move on to new things.
I'd still buy the CD and keep it in my car, though.
The first three Man Man albums are high up in my personal canon. Once, many years ago, I lost my iPod - that is, my entire music repository - for several months, and when I eventually found it (in a boot I rarely wore), they were the first thing I played. I loved that freaky minstrel shit. I reveled in having taste that nobody else I knew appreciated.
I downloaded Life Fantastic around when it came out and hated it - or, at least, disdained it. Couldn't get into it. Not silly and weird enough to be my Man Man. I never listened to any of their newer stuff, in part because of that but mostly because I didn't really listen to new shit in general; iPod life generally made that too frictive to bother with.
Well, this album's also not Man Man, but it's good. It's fun and smart and funky and Honus Honus still brings the big dick energy. What a guy. Really would love to see him live someday.
